Request for Replication Experiences

[Quoted] My work group is interested in deploying a database using the Oracle replication environment. Implementing replication appears to be relatively straightforward in basic replication mode. However, symmetric replication appears to be somewhat more complicated. From those of you who are operating in a replicated environment whether it is Oracle or another DMBS, information on the following questions will be appreciated appropriately:

• What difficulties have you encountered in setting up the system?
• What difficulties have you encountered in operating the system?
• Have you needed to provide any special developer training or tools?
• Have you used any developer tools other than those available from the DBMS vendor?
• Have you needed to provide any special end-user training?
• What hardware and software systems are you using for the replicated system?
• Is your system synchronous (aka real-time) or asynchronous (aka store-and-forward)?
• Why did you deploy a replicated system? E. g, system fail-over, work flow, etc.

Is there a FAQ on replication other than on the Oracle WWW page? If so, will someone kindly point me there.
