(unknown charset) Access to data in a Client Server Enviroment

Hi everyone.
I have a doubt about the way an Oracle Database is acceded from a Forms 4.5 Client.
The enviroment is
Client:
Windows 3.X
Forms 4.5
Network Protocol
TCP/IP
Server
UNIX
Oracle 7.2
The access is through ODBC or by a direct driver to the database. This is something unclear to me.
Please i' ll be very grateful if anyone give me a response.
