Personally, I have no opinion on the appliances. I would expect it to be decent (in the "nobody was ever fired for buying IBM" paradigm), you can get in relatively cheap, then they get you on the scale-up and the real money is in licensing, particularly the db and apps. http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/exadata-pricelist-070598.pdf (Actually, I think it would be good for my current company to consolidate on, but past experience with Oracle being a poopy-head probably rules it out.)
