problems using hsodbc

I wonder if anyone can help with an odd problem using a remote link via odbc?

I'm getting the same problem linking to both a centura database and to SQL 2000 database.

The link is setup, the tnsnames and listener.sql are set up and the odbc datasource is created and tested.

In SQLdeveloper i run the query select count(*) from pubs_at_cjg and press execute. The query runs and runs ... no errors and no data. As soon as I press cancel execution stops and the data is retuned correctly. Now, for the rest of the session until I log out, all queries against the remote link work correctly.

Has anyone any suggestions why the first time the link is accessed there is a problem?
