There is no question that the tools in 10g are far more sophisticated than those in previous versions and there is no question in my mind that those who learn them will still have jobs 5 years from now while those that don't will start learning to say "Do you want fries with that?"

The very same pressures that are obsoleting jobs are working against technology workers too. It is not hard to see a point in the future where a single DBA, plus backup, will be able to manage hundreds of databases using a more sophisticated Grid Control. But that day is not here yet.

RMAN, for all of its capabilities, still needs someone at the wheel that knows what the loss of a control file actually means.
