Don't let Sybrand's comments discourage you; by all indications he knows Oracle inside and out; but sadly he tends to be a little short with questions that are below a certain level of base understanding. Shame that technical expertise and PR skills don't always go hand in hand. Oh well.

Hopefully someone can provide some constructive comments to your questions; I certainly would if I could, but I am of limited usefulness:

10g _can_ be installed on a PC, given the requisite RAM and disk requirements. As always, the more RAM the better - especially if you want to put an app server and a database on the same machine. I'd try to max out the RAM for the machine - 2GB would be a healthy setup.

I strongly doubt that you'll have problems getting an application to run on the same machine as the db, but I have not seen that specific combination so I can't speak from direct experience. But there really is no reason to think it cannot be done.
