The Oracle web site provides a complete documentation of the differences. Enterprise has the parallel server, partitioning and other nice features. Right now I work for a company around twice the size of Apple. All of our databases are Oracle. We just got a quote for a modest sized Sun box - 10K for the Standard and 60K for the Enterprise. We decided that nice as Enterprise is, the difference in price is too great.

Worse yet, management now wants us to look at DB2.
