I interpreted OP that he is running on RH EL 5. I have successfully set up 10.2.0.4 on a CentOS 5 which should be identical to RH EL 5 (apart from the OS name). So I am suspecting a hardware or driver issue or misapplication of Oracle's installation documentation.
