I started off with V5.2, and it definitely did not support Oracle. RH 6.0 and 6.2 were a RPITA to get Oracle running. I suspect you are running something else - Fedora 6, perhaps? ES 5.0?
Did you check the Linux/Oracle installation wizard site? It's at http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
