Oh, I hear his sort of rants all the time. But they are becoming fewer and fewer (and lamer and lamer) as they are slowly pulled into the new century and the new tools. Long before he joined Quest, Steven F was showing TOAD as a means to producing BETTER and more solid Pl/Sql Code. Eyal Aranoff or was it Dan Hotka presented a course on Sql Tuning using TOAD. The book shelves are filled with books from the BEST (ahem, Sybrand) in the Oracle community and they all use TOAD because it helps them get their jobs done MUCH faster. You still have to know Pl/Sql to write code. But why not write in an environment with syntax highlighting, table and column name completion, compile-less syntax checks, code tempaltes, etc. Anything else is itself just plain dumb!
