Hi,

Someone has recently said to me that our backup strategy isn't too secure. what we currently do is shutdown all the running databases, and backup the entire system. They said that if we restored it all, that it possibly wouldn't work because the control files would be out of sync. etc...

This doesn't sound too feasible to me, as if the entire system was backed up at a certain point in time, then when it's all restored, all the files should be synchronized. Am I right or wrong?

We are running Oracle 8.0.4.1 on AIX 4.3.2 on an IBM RS/6000 H50

Thanks
