I am doing the same in the next 3 months and I do not want to upgrade to OEL 7.0
I was told that as long as the GI was 12.2.0.1.180717 (which we are currently on) there is no issue running mixed versions.

We are adding 4 X8-2 storage nodes to an X6-2 quarter

Another customer ordered 3 X7-2 Storage nodes the day before yesterday to avoid any possible reasons to be forced to upgrade to Oracle Linux 7.

Let me know how you go :-)
