You run it on any insert statement, but you won't get anything useful unless you have an "insert as select". I've done this many times with no adverse effects to data in tables.

CAUTION - EXTERNAL EMAIL In the past, I have only run the advisor for a select statement. Can it be run for an Insert statement? I have always hesitated running it on one since when evaluating the effectiveness of the statement the advisor tries to execute it.
