If I recall correctly you'll find it is also used when patching agents - or deploying new gold agent images, and that *is *something you should be doing.
You don't say what your deployment model is, but if you are planning on any
sort of HA for your OMS (other than just building the OMS as a single
server on an HA Virtual platform) then Pete's reply below isn't quite
correct :(. The software library needs to be on shared writeable storage
between OMS machines - see

This can be expensive to provide.
