        i don't think it is a marketing vs. technology issue, it is just that many things done by an LVM (like stripping, mirroring, or concatenation) are better done by ASM for Oracle db files.

...not to single you out, but you are the only person I've ever seen suggest ASM
does mirroring well.

That aside, is it common to deploy ASM without external redundancy? Better yet, has
anyone ever seen an enterprise-class ASM deployment where the "disks" in the disk
groups were _not_ in fact striped and mirrored LUNS?
