RE: db_file_multiblock_read_count causing full scans to takelonger?

It's not clear from the documentation either (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/ini tparams047.htm):

"Note that if the number of sessions is extremely large the multiblock read count value is decreased to avoid the buffer cache getting flooded with too many table scan buffers."
