     Hiya Steve,

One thing you'll find, is that the DBA_DATA_FILES is just a pointer,
it doesn't create/delete etc actual OS files. So all that really needs
to have occured, is that someone has deleted the actual file from the
     OS.

This is not a good time to ask, but when was the last time you either
backed up the data files/redo logs/control files, or did an Oracle
     export?

     Hello,
I have been getting this error when accessing Oracle. I looked up the
file number and determined that it is one of three datafiles
associated with one tablespace. When I went out to the operating
system, the datafile is nowhere to be found! What is going on? I
hoped to find some explanation for the missing file (accidently
deleted by someone or something) but so far I'm stumped. The datafile
still shows up when I query dba_data_files. Any clues would be most
helpful. Setup is: Netware 4.1 Oracle 7.1.3.3.2

     thanks in advance,
     Steve Will
