  Hugh Darwen's comments on this wiki page are pretty good, imo. And the model he describes is pretty close to the one I implemented: temporal measurements as vector quantities, the time line as a continuum with out of bound values for temporal concepts (epoch, etc). His review of the history of the standards reflects my understanding. I'm mildly disappointed that he overlooks the potential of object/relational (extensible) DBMS engines as a vehicle to deploy these ideas, but that's a small quibble.

  But his comments here do not reflect what is written in the book recommended upthread. And far from being the ramblings of 'imbiceles' or 'morons', Darwen acknowledges that the continuum vs discrete model of time is 'controversial'. Received on Sun Jan 21 2007 - 21:54:03 CET
