It would have to outperform the competing technology in all (or enough) aspects to at least warrant the cost of adoption. If the gains were clearly significant (nay even compelling) then adoption would no doubt be extremely rapid.

Given that the prevalent technology is a (fairly) complex animal, it is naive at least to suggest a simple example would ever be adequate to demonstrate a pretender is superior in all aspects worth of consideration!
