History window, file browser, relational attributes on pictures, undo, managing user preferences (how many times do those get corrupted?!) layers palette, managing brush presets, managing patterns, managing filter settings, managing color palettes, etc.

Anything and everything that gets written to a file and read back in later, with the possible exception of things that are handled in a standardized external file format, such as jpeg, but even that would be better handled through the dbms. DBMSs should have a way to externalize data in a specific format.
