If some 19 year old gets all in love with Java and says that, it signifies nothing. I'm sure he also thinks Linus Torvalds invented the idea of a Unix kernel, and Madonna was the first ever sex symbol. Guy Steele was a big name early on in Java; I'd bet he doesn't think Java invented garbage collection.
