Is there a way for a UNIX system to query an Oracle data base on a Pinnacle server using open methods such as ftp, sftp, ssh or scp?

We need to send SQL queries to the Oracle8I data base on the Pinnacle server in question from a FreeBSD platform so we can build various scripts and logs based upon the data we receive.

We use freetds to query a Microsoft data base via php for a similar purpose and it works fine. We would like to, (are being strongly asked to), do the same thing with the Pinnacle server.

If there is an option to set in the Pinnacle server that could enable this type of access, that would be fine with us. If there is a utility out there that will let us run the SQL on the Oracle8I server, that's fine also.

I freely admit that this is all new territory to me. I don't know all we can do or can't do, but can't is winning hands down at this time.

There is a linux binary suite on the Oracle web site for Oracle817, but it is huge and built for a Linux system. This is a FreeBSD system with no X Windows.
I have installed Linux binary support, but have had very spotty luck with attempts to run Linux software on the system.

Any constructive ideas are welcome. Thank you.
