I have only worked at a couple of sites that use Oracle, and they all have what I would consider "toy" databases. These databases are small, on a single disk drive, and are only backed up cold.
How is your "real" Oracle disk system configured? Size? Speed? Spindles? RAID? Controllers? File system? Raw partition? Whateverelse?
