You do not have to have a cold backup I monitor e commerce databases and those never have colds  

In any case some people leave sessions open/running and these use up resources a cold backup will take care of that, rolling back / rollingforward transactions as needed which might be a source of contention if needed by some one else
With available resources and possibility I will encourage colds at least once a while.

There has been at least one time when It was obvious things were not working but no obvious explanations despite the effort that was put in, after bouncing the instance things opened up.If you can bounce the instance you may as well be able to afford a cold Michae T Ngong (Sr DBA) Received on Fri Feb 22 2002 - 19:46:46 CET
