hi!
there are 2 main issues with DBs anyway:
- what is the DB able to do
- how fast and how good is the support
in issue one oracle wins anyway and for big free scalable DBs you should always use that even it's expensive as hell. the java implementation in oracle is also very good.
in issue two sybase wins becaus the support is really good and not that unfriendly as it is for oracle(only know about 3 european countries). i even got batches to fix server bugs within 24hours.
so depending on what you want to do you have to choose.
