Oracle JDeveloper: DB-based user authentication?

Can anyone give me extra pointers to user authentication when developing with JDeveloper 3.1.x / Oracle8i/iAS / BC4J? What kind of model does Oracle provide?
Basically, I want to tie any DB access into a role-based authentication system so that when a bean accesses the DB, it checks the user's permissions for the table. I have my own design, but hooking it into the automatically generated DB beans seems like a bit of a chore; if the Oracle folk have kindly provided something handy in the Business Component library, I'd be happy to take a look at it.
