Problem with Design/2000

We're having problems connecting to an 8i database on an NT machine with Design/2000 -- every time we try connecting to the service we get either a "could not resolve service name" or "lost contact" error.

We are trying to connect via TCP/IP -- the "Test" in Net8 works fine as does connecting remotely via the Enterprise Manager. We have checked the tnsnames.ora file. Any ideas?
