Help! ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination




I deleted the default Oracle 8 database and I recreated a TYPICAL database
using the database assistant.



When I try to connect using any of the Oracle tools (SQL *PLUS)     I
recieve the above error.



I created a Service Name and by specifying the service  name I can work
around the problem but I would like to be able to connect to my local
database without having to specify a service name.
