I'm asking for opinions for handling queries against very large text objects.
My customer wants to Web-enable an database that would contain research abstracts and their related (full-length) articles -- BLOB objects that might easily exceed 1-5 Mb for each record. And of course, they want to do free-form searches on any word or string in the entire table (without performance problems, natch).
Their preferred platform is Access 2 on NT, but that may not be feasible.
I'm looking for any ideas on estimating the performance issues on wildcard searching in very large columns -- or if there are alternatives worth exploring such as Adobe document imaging?
Many thanks in advance, folks.
