Help Needed - Column Security and Forms 3.0

I have successfully enforced column level security and set the 'column sec' block characteristic (forms 3.0) on a couple of forms that front end relevant tables. When up and running, the whole thing works as desired. However, there has been a big impact on the invocation time for each form. One form in particular took less than 2 seconds to load before enforcing column level security, but now takes over a minute!
Has anyone else come across this problem?
Can anyone suggest a work around/solution?
