HI David,

our experience is, that RAID 5 is the better solution here is our configuration
Compaq Proliant 5000 4 x 166 MHz Pentium PRO 256 MB RAM
NT 3.51
ORACLE 7.3
for the System disk 4 GIG mirrord (harware) 2 x RAID 5 each 5x2 GIG

the size of the DB is about 13 GIG and we have about 120 users

with RAID 5 you need less numbers of disks (reducing costs) because the security informations are striped over all the disks in your RAID5 set
for example for a Volume with 10 GIG net you need for RAID 5 (when you are using 2 GIG drives) 6 drives
for mirrored you need 10 drives
the performance of the mirrord version is better but our experience on the COMPAQ PROLIANT boxes with RAID 5 is very good

be carefull with your ORACLE configuration (witch tablespace on wich volume ....)
if you need more information, let me know
