That setup won't work; SQL*Net versions 1 & 2 aren't compatible. However, you can run both versions simultaneously on the server until you've upgraded the clients. Alas, Oracle 7.3 doesn't come with SQL*Net 1. I've heard that SQL*Net 1 from previous versions can be made to work with Oracle 7.3, but I've no idea how to do it, or even if it's true.
