mount database then perform recover command via server manager. when it asks for first archive log in sequence, let it sit there.

well, that's going to be a good trick since the only way to goose recovery is to enter <return> or a log file name. you might be able to do a trick using a forked shell and a pipe to server manager's standard input from the cron job. yipes!
