My answer would be that the key to SQL is that it is "STANDARD". The other languages are more proprietary and therefore only work with that particular database. This is not the perfect answer but I would think that it is a large part of it. There is no other real reason to believe that any one language is better than any other unless you are looking at specific points such as speed, ease of use, etc.
