When you get that warning, type "show errors" at the SQL*Plus prompt to see your errors.  

Steve Feuerstein has a good book "Oracle PL/SQL Programming" available through O'Reilly and Associates, Inc. You can call them at (800) 889-8969 to order it. More than you ever wanted to know about PL/SQL.  

Oracle has a new product called "Oracle Procedure Builder" which is supposed to provide a good debugging environment. I have never used it. Normally PL/SQL is very difficult to debug.
