Greetings!

We are attempting to link an Oracle ver 6.0.36 database hosted on a Data General MV15000 with an Oracle ver 7.1.3 database hosted on a Sun Sparc20. Unfortunatelly, we are stuck with sqlnet ver 1.1.6 on the DG, and have encountered the following problems during configuration:

  1. Oranet takes 5 minutes to come up because it's looking for a netbios driver. We haven't a clue on how to limit the driver search to just TCP/IP.
  2. Once oranet finishes and the listener is up, we attempt a loopback connection via sqlplus using a simple tcpip connect string, and receive first ORA-1034 (0racle Not Up), then ORA-3741 (?RDUDA SGA error). I know for a fact that the instance is Open and available because a standard sqlplus connect works fine.
  3. The final rub is that we have zero installation or user documentation regarding sqlnet ver 1.1.6 on the DG. I created the configuration.ora file using the sqlnet ver 1.2 users guide for AOS/VS II, and I believe it is correct. Note that Oracle on the DG was installed several years ago by a contractor, and by the very presence of the required oranet executables files, I am assuming that they elected to install sqlnet also. Note further that we installed sqlnet ver 1.2 on the Sun Sparc20 with no problems and the loopback test works like a champ.

Please excuse any breech of newsgroup standard or custom, as while I have been a DBA for 6 years using versions 5-7, I have never posted before.

If anybody has an idea on how to proceed besides discarding the DG (would love to), I would love to hear it. Thank you in advance for any help.
