I use files anywhere from 500MB to about 1500MB; in my next revision of the database, we'll use 1GB (plus a few blocks) in order to make things more consistent, and easier to manage during create and backup. Logical volumes provide striping advantage, but little help or hurt on the file management front; no particular file size is 'best' from an Oracle perspective, outside of your ease of support.
