I am creating a database with 'cooked' data files. That is, the files are not raw, but file system. I have created logical volumes, each spanning 2 or 3 disks. Is there an optimal file size for Oracle data files? I have asked advice from DBA's with more experience than me, and some say 500M and others say up to 2G. In the installation guide, it says that Oracle recommends that datafiles be no bigger than 500M. Can anyone offer advice on this? Does the fact that I have logical volumes influence this?
