Don't have the exact numbers, but yes, the install base of Tandem's NonStop SQL may be small compare to the "main-stream" databases running on UNIX boxes...

If you have ever used a bank ATM machine, you'd probably used a Tandem system running NonStop SQL. If you trade stocks on NYSE, you HAVE used a Tandem system running NonStop SQL. If you have ever shopped at a Target store, you have used a Tandem system running NonStop SQL. Tandem's main business is targeted at the following industries: Banking, Finance, Telecommunication, Healthcare & Insurance, and others. Goto Tandem's webpage for further details (http://www.tandem.com).

People PAY for what they GET. Tandem systems running NonStop SQL offers many features that others just can't compete with. Tandem systems offer high availability and fault tolerance that others don't even come close (this is where "NonStop" comes from). Tandem systems are the most scalable and since its software is highly integrated with the operating system, the TPCC results speak for its performance.

Yes, it may be an EXPENSIVE combination, but like I said, you get what you pay for, and for all those companies that rely on high performance and 24-7 operations, Tandem is their only choice.
