Hi,

I expect to be building a moderate sized (~60 Gig) OLTP database for a high availability environment. The current proposal involves two sparc 2000s with (shared) EMC disk.

One of the SUNs will be a warm backup with an Oracle instance up in parallel with the primary DB server. This "backup" instance is in parallel to speed recovery if the primary fails and will up but not accessed during normal activity.

I have two areas of concern re: the EMC box:

  1. Do I continue to concern myself with isolating the redo logs to individual disks ? Note the EMC has 9 Gig drives internally and my redo logs will be no more than 500 Meg.
  2. Since parallel server requires "raw devices" will this be a problem with the EMC box. e.g. can you apply raid to raw devices.

If anyone has experence with Oracle on EMC I would appreceiate hearing from you.

Thank you (in advance)
Ken F.

A: None.
The Universe spines the bulb, and
the Zen master stays out of the way.
