Before training considerations, you may want to ask yourself the following:
Can I take a global view of database operations vs. the more focused (blinders on) view exhibited by AD.
Do I want to, and can I, keep answering the same questions over and over with out losing my perspective? (Particularly in getting an explain plan prior to putting queries in production.)
