OPS$ login going away ?

The DBA's where I am working refuse to let developers use OPS$LOGIN here because according to them it is going away in the next major release of Oracle. This has caused all sorts of nonesense up to and includeing trying to rewrite the UNIX ps command to hide command line arguments. What I would like to know is whether Oracle really intends to remove OPS$ or is this just a lot of smoke. Anybody out there ever heard anything about this ?
