Re: Very Large Oracle Database Backup (200 Gbytes)

Our VLDB backup strategy.

We have mirrored disks. (HP server)
nightly we bring the Oracle Appls and Database down. Split the mirror.
Bring Oracle Appls and Database back up. Total time down 5 min.

     (Our 7*24 customer finds this is an acceptable down time)

In parallel we backup the split mirrors to tape Total time 3 hours.

After the backup merge the disk back in. Archive files are done separately.

Recovery is simple and quick. (relatively)
