Sam,

By putting them on their own servers you can tune each environment to the spicific application, reduce I/O contention, use more RAM for each instance, etc.

However, how much do the different applications need to communicate together? What is the network going to be like, configuration and so forth? Are all the servers going to be located in the same building/room? If not then are you going to need more DBA's, etc. The answers to these questions could have an impact on your question. Is it possible for you to upgrade your SCO server to something more powerful, increase ram, number of disks, controlers etc. If so you may be able to achive the throughput of multiple systems and the ease of maintance of a single server env.
