Hi Carsten,
i run Oracle for several years now from 6.x to 7.1.3 on IBM RS6000 320H, 530H, 550, 580H.
I like the IBM's because tey are relatively easy to handle; you may be used to easy handling from your Apple and don't want to become a unix guru just to run a database server. To be an Oracle DBA is work enough. My advise is to run the RDBMS only on the Server and tools like Oracle Forms etc. on Clients like Apple or MsDos.
There is no reason Oracle will not run on a specific RS6000.
But: My strong advise is to ask your Oracle representative about this. You need the production release commit for AIX 4.1.3 for example!
Take a hard-disk as big as possible.
The installed as AIX OS disk and an additional as Oracle disk.
2 Gig's are very cheap at the moment.
32 MB should be enough for a small installation. 16 MB are minimum anyway. (correct me if i am wrong)
Remember to buy a backup-device. 8 mm or DAT-tape (DAT is cheaper)
Hope this helps,
toni
PS: Please mail direct for details, further questions
