In response to my own post, the question bounced out of Oracle support this morning. Neither 7.1.4 nor 7.1.6 will install on the DEC Alpha running OSF/1 2.0.
Oh well, I get to wait for the operating system upgrade and do it all at once.
Life goes on, speed bumps and all.
