I've had this error recently on v6.0.36.7, running on HP-UX 9.04. Oracle UK tell me the argument [512] indicates a problem in latching code, which on HP-UX (and I guess other flavours of UNIX) is implemented in shared memory and semaphores.

Their first suggestion was to make sure the memory subsystem was OK, as this was the cause of the error on several customer sites.

Other than that, I guess your best bet is to do as the book says, and 'Report as a bug'...
