In addition to the problems Russell described re. RB segs, any indexes, grants, triggers, etc. will need to be re-created as well. What a nightmare huh? I suggest you try TSreorg from Platinum (1.800.init.ora). This tool will not only let you drop columns, but you can rename them, changes datatypes, and more!
