Hi Everyone!

There is an excellent tool available for MS Windows that will do just what you want. It is from SDP Technologies in Oakbrook, IL. It will reverse engr. a physical model from virtually any type of database. You can then use this physical model to create a conceptual model. You can then take the conceptual model, and generate a database, or scripts, for any other kind of database. I have used on numerous occasions and find it to be one of the most useful tools OF ANY KIND I have ever used. For example, I have used it to migrate a database from MS SQL Server to NetwareSQL, from MS SQL Server to MS Access, from InterBase to dBase and Paradox, and from Oracle to MS SQL Server.

I am not fully versed with the terminology of the current techniques, but it seems to be standard ER diagrams that it uses for everything. It is very easy to use, very stable, and fast.

The name of the product is S-Designor Pro. They have eval kits avail. for free. I highly recommend it.

Cheers,
Eric

P.S. I am NOT affiliated in any way with SDP Technologies. I just love this  product. Received on Tue Aug 01 1995 - 00:00:00 CEST
