Help...Oracle Install Relinking Error

Hi Folks,

I've been trying to do a complete install of Oracle 7.1.4 on my Sun box for the past week, and am about to give up, go home, and have a nervous breakdown :-)

I keep getting relinking errors when the installer tries to create the Oracle7 Server executables. This is what comes up in my "install.log":

 ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libpls.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libknl.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libpls.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libknl.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libnlsrtl.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libcore.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libnlsrtl.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: elf error: file /home/sct/oracle_7.1.4/lib/libcore.a: unable to

     locate archive symbol table: Format error: archive fmag  ld: fatal: Segmentation Fault - core dumped

• Error code 139 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target 'oracle'

(FYI, the TNS Listener linked OK.)

I'm just trying to install the base system. My environment looks like:

• SPARCclassic running Solaris 5.4
• 1.5GB disk space on 2 drives, 16 MB memory
• ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_TERM, and ORACLE_SID are set
• Since swap space is minimal, TMPDIR is set and writable to oracle

Any answers, comments, or words-of-wisdom are appreciated!
